For the police of tomorrow

An impressive new building for one of the most modern police academies in Germany has been built in the Alsterdorf district of Hamburg on behalf of the German Federal Office for Internal Affairs and Sport.

The monolithic reinforced concrete structure with a partially green roof was designed by AH+P Architekten. The partially protruding upper floor of "Building A" is a particular eye-catcher. But the metal/aluminium or stainless steel façade as a curtain façade with a high-gloss polished mirror surface also grabs attention. The substructure is a structural glazing all-glass façade.

 

Training centre with all the technical refinements

On a total of five floors – two of which are underground – the new police academy offers space for 1,500 trainees and students in the police service over a total area of around 10,000 square metres, who are trained for the job in the facilities by around 400 employees.

Inside, there are lecture halls equipped with all sophisticated technology, conference, lecture and changing rooms, offices, training apartments, various warehouses and a vehicle hall. A special cargo lift can bring vehicles directly into the basement so that the future police officers can be trained in vehicle checks in privacy, for example. They can also practise securing crime scenes in a fully furnished crime scene apartment.

 

Acoustic panels set accents in the halls 

To increase the feel-good character in the innovative training centre, those responsible for planning the interior spaces placed importance on both state-of-the-art equipment and an open and homely design, and they created transparent spaces along the hallways by using lots of glass. Seat corners with orange upholstery embedded in the light walls set colourful accents and also create an effective contrast to the dark window frames and light floors. The grey acoustic panels from the Troldtekt® Line Design design solution based on the cement type FUTURECEM™ installed on the ceiling in the hallways also have a strong design impact. One interesting feature is that the planners and installers arranged the linear structure of the ceiling panels differently.
